Real Looking Models

ModelsPerceptions of beauty and whether society accepts them are constantly changing. Once being plump was considered a sign of beauty for models, then it was being slender. Now the criteria appears to be changing once again with the public reportedly eager to see more “normal” looking models who resemble people you might see in real life.

Dictionary.com defines a model “whose profession is posing for artists or photographers.” However, over the years, the definition has changed, or rather been extended, in its meaning. The word model is used with descriptive adjectives as slim, tall and gorgeous, but is it true nowadays?

Newsweek Magazine reports that “real-looking models” are now shining in fashion shows.

Now real people are even strutting the catwalk—the swimwear company Lycra plucked 20 women of all shapes and sizes off the beach to model their suits at last year’s Miami Swim Fashion Week.

It also quotes Simon Rogers, the head of Ugly New York, a casting agency for “real”-looking models, commenting on this new trend.

“I definitely think there’s some backlash amongst people who see fashion shows, then read stories about how the models have to smoke themselves to death and only drink lemon water for six weeks.People would like to see somebody up there who reflects how people on the street really look.”

An expert in the field, Amy Larocca, the editor of “Look Book,” explains the new trend.

“Fashion shows used to be for a very small number of people, very exclusive. Now you can see them an hour later on the Internet. Everyone can be involved. Larocca also links the increased accessibility of fashion to the number of high-end designers creating affordable lines for mass-market stores, such as Isaac Mizrahi’s collection for Target, as well as reality shows such as “Project Runway.”

Back in skinny jeans also states that people nowadays care about models’ health rather than their appearance.

If the woman still looks like she’s only had lemon water with cayenne pepper to eat for 6 weeks, then she’s still starving herself for fashion, and none of us want to see that any more. We don’t care about a model’s fashion look, we care about her health.

admin | Beauty News, Cosmetics, General, Glamor, Perfumes, Shops, Supermodel | Friday, 21 December 2007

Keri Long Hand CreamHand creams have always been used not only for softening the skin, but to also protecting hands from the winter cold. Keri Long Lasting Hand Cream, for example, contains rich emollients and Vitamin E which nourishes and protects hands without leaving them too greasy.

According to drugstore.com, the price of Keri Long Hand Cream is $ 4.99 for one tube, but in the opinion of some beauty bloggers, the results are worth millions. DeLush: Don’t forget to vote for your favorite beauty products! says:

“Keri Long Lasting Hand Cream contains rich emollients and Vitamin E to nourish skin, help heal rough, dry hands and protect skin from the harsh effects of the environment. It lasts even after multiple hand washings, leaving your hands feeling incredibly soft and smooth.”

All About The Pretty is the first to give “a first customer review,”

I understand. I have been traveling with Keri Long Lasting Hand Cream in my bag for a few days now and I’m very happy with the results. I’m personally attached to all my beauty products, but needed a hand cream to get me through the trip. I should have brought another tube. I only planned on using it on me and now I’m sharing. I’m the only girl of four boys. Who me, share? Not likely, but I’m learning.

For brand new customers, drugstore.com offers a free standard shipping on a first nonprescription order of $25 or more.

I need something that can take me from an evening out with a rock star to a PTA meeting to playing ball with the big boys in the cosmetics industry. And it always came back to accessories. They are the things that change a wardrobe immediately.”

Anna Rawson’s Career Change

Former Australian model Anna Rawson has changed her career from being a model to becoming a professional athlete. Bitten and Bound reports that Rawson has earned a professional LPGA golf tour card.

A Rawson biography indicates she played collegiate golf at the University of Southern California and received All-Pac-10 honorable mention in 2001, 2002 and 2004. She seems to have a lot in common with male counterpart Tiger Woods. She has also been an active model, doing catwalk, print ad and TV work.

26 year old athlete Rawson earned her players card on Sunday after finishing an LPGA qualifying tournament with three birdies. The Bumpshack has more.

“I am very excited to be apart of this elite and diverse group of athletes,” said Rawson, “My continuous goal is to raise the profile of women’s golf, and this new phase in my career will allow me to make more strides to do so.”

Golf Now quotes Rawson expressing her gratitude to fans and supporters.

“To all those who were pulling for me, thank you so much for your love and support. Your kind words have definitely helped me get to this point. Thank you thank you thank you!,” Rawson says.

Let’s hope that Rawson’s move up in the world will bring more and more members to Golf Clubs.
