Plastic SurgeryThe Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to launch a project to attract more tourists who want to undergo any kind of cosmetic surgery operation. To achieve this, the city plans to establish the Seoul Center for Aesthetic Medical Tourism General Support.

Seoulstyle.com states that the popularity of plastic surgery particularly in Korea is growing at a staggering rate.

The current statistics are hard to estimate, but after a search of the internet, one article claimed that about 50 percent of Korean women in their 20’s have undergone some kind of cosmetic operation. Many patients are high school students. Some get cosmetic surgery as a graduation present from their parents and some are doing it without their parents consent. Statistics also point to an ever increasing number of men opting for elective surgery.

Moreover, eTurboNews reports that a recent survey shows that the number of people who want to undergo cosmetic surgery has increased over the years.

There are about 1,300 plastic surgeons in Seoul alone. A survey found that 40 percent of respondents aged between 18 and 24 and 60 percent of those aged between 25 and 29 said they have had cosmetic surgery. It is not uncommon for graduating students to undergo cosmetic surgery before beginning job hunting.

According to The Daily Yomiuri, the Seoul Cosmetic Surgery center would dispatch interpreters specialized in the fields to hospitals caring for the center’s clients.

“It also would have its own Web site and brochures in foreign languages to promote plastic surgery.”

New Extremes in Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic SurgeryDictionary.com defines beauty as the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations such as shape, color, sound, etc., a meaningful design or pattern, or something else, such as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest.

According to wikipedia.com, researchers have found that there is a mono semantic perception of beauty among people.

Although style and fashion vary widely, cross-cultural research has found a variety of commonalities in people’s perception of beauty. Large eyes and a clear complexion, for example, are considered beautiful in both men and women in all cultures

But today’s world is faster and requires more. Even long legs and limbs are not enough to be considered beautiful.

Abc News says that for years limb lengthening was done almost exclusively to correct developmental deformities or repair damage to limbs after an accident. But more and more often the surgery is now being done for cosmetic reasons to help people — primarily men — grow a little taller.

For a window into why someone would undergo such a punishing procedure, you don’t have to look any further than the Web site Make Me Taller. The website is a forum for men and women who call themselves “stature seekers.” Many of them have had the surgery and others are seeking help from others.

There are also online diaries and pictures that give other seekers a peek at what they’re in for. The site has 1,800 members and gets about a 100,000 hits a month, according to the site administrator who described himself as a 37-year-old, graphic designer from Brighton, England. He calls himself MMT and wished to remain anonymous.

MMT is quoted as saying that he had his surgery a year ago in China. Before the operation he was five foot eight. After the leg-lengthening procedure, he measures five foot eleven.

“I decided it would be a good investment for my business career and I also simply wanted to be taller … but it is more involved than a straightforward cosmetic procedure — the intention is to alter one’s life, rather than just to improve ones’ appearance.”

If this cosmetic surgery helps people be happier and feel more confidence, then what it can mean for others who just see them going through all this!
