Age, Beauty and Employment

admin | Beauty News, Cosmetics, General | Thursday, 29 November 2007

Do we become less successful when we get old? According to Medscape Today, perceptions of beauty and age in society are connected regardless of sex.

The “ideal woman” is said to have a small chin, delicate jaws, full lips, a small nose, high cheek bones, large and widely spaced eyes, and a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.7. The “ideal man” is taller, with a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.9, and rugged features such as a dominant, rectangular face and chin; deep-set eyes; and a heavy brow, suggesting a strong supply of testosterone.

For most of us, aging is a process of deterioration. Loss of youthfulness and beauty begins at around 25 years of age for women and 28 years of age for men. Those considered beautiful are more likely to get married, be hired, get paid more, and be promoted sooner although in general, the older you are, the more experience you have.

Beauty and the Geek

admin | Beauty News, General, Media, Television Shows | Wednesday, 28 November 2007

Reality TV Magazine reports that the two final teams hoping to get their hands on $250,000 in prize money passed last week’s semi-final of the reality show, Beauty and the Geek. The online magazine names them as Dave and Jasmine, and Nicole and Sam.

We opened with the Evening of the Final elimination and the two finalist couples dressed for what appeared would be the final elimination dynamics as explained by our host, Mike. Mike greeted the couples and remarked how no one gave Jasmine and Dave odds on being in the finals. Mike said that the pair had the biggest turn-around in Beauty and the Geek history as they won the final three challenges. Mike then turned to Sam and Nicole and said that certainly no one expected them to even be in the running, which had Nicole saying the they certainly showed them. Mike told them that the game was not headed to the elimination room tonight and that the game was changing once again.

The Beauty Blog wishes both pairs of contestants the best of luck! There’s an interview with the final contestants online on Zap2it.

Paris Hilton Beauty Tips

The Makeup and Beauty Blog carries an interview with Paris Hilton in which she details her top five beauty tips. Definitely a must read!

Paris was rocking a fierce look in our interview. She was wearing a sleeveless cream top and black skirt by BCBG and hot pink Christian Dior shoes. Ladies and gents, you know how your girl loves the shoes. I briefly thought about stopping the interview to have my photographer (El Hub) take shots of Paris’ fantabulous footwear, but alas, I only had six minutes to get through all my questions. So sorry, fellow shoe lovers!

For her makeup, Paris wore a silver, sparkly eye with thick black liner on the top lid along with a soft flushed cheek. She had on MAC shadow and Max Factor blush. The focal point of her look was a pink lip topped with a layer of Chanel Glossimer lipgloss in Astral #104. “I love the glitter in it,” she said.

Minority Beauty Magazines

admin | Beauty News, General | Monday, 26 November 2007

The MagCrit Blog takes a look at beauty magazines for minorities, and in particular You Make It Beautiful, a publication for black women living “organic lifestyles.”

YMIB.com is revolutionary because, while it is a beauty and fashion magazine, it doesn’t focus on losing weight and trying to attain some perfect look. Instead, the magazine focuses on holistic health as well as mental and spiritual well-being . I especially love its Creative Living section, which focuses on crafts and arts. Magazines like YMIB.com help to redefine what beauty is, and for minority women this is important since we are often not the standard of beauty. It is refreshing to see black women portrayed as beautiful not only because of their physical beauty, but also because of their creative, intellectual spirits.

In a time when the forecast looks rather bleak for minority women’s magazines, YMIB.com gives me hope. This magazine represents a very positive change in the type of content that is directed toward minority women. And that is true beauty to me.
